Vintage Johnson Brothers Castle on the Lake Red Transferware Platter
Vintage Johnson Brothers Castle on the Lake Red Transferware Platter

A romantic English landscape, climbing roses and an old castle reflected across the water make this vintage Johnson Brothers platter especially lovely.
Made in England, the platter features the discontinued Castle on the Lake pattern in a soft cranberry-red transfer against creamy white ironstone. The scenic decoration is arranged around the sides of the platter, leaving an open center that beautifully frames whatever you are serving.
The gently raised, rope-style rim adds just enough texture without competing with the intricate pastoral design. Use it for sliced meats, roasted vegetables, pastries, tea sandwiches or a simple arrangement of fruit. When it is not being used, it is pretty enough to display on a plate stand or inside a collected china cabinet.
Mix it with white ironstone, silver serving pieces and other red transferware for a layered table that feels collected rather than overly matched.
